Brainstorm

5-3-2008

It’s now time to start putting together some bags and really decide how the interaction should play out, and I’m having to refine how the bags should work in the show specifically. Here are a few considerations I’m dealing with:

  1. User wants to hear a bitchy remark right when they put on a bag (no delay).
  2. User should be able to take their time putting on the bag.
  3. User should not start listening mid-way through a remark.
  4. Code shouldn’t cut off a remark mid-play.

Solutions:
A) soft switch in shoulder strap
- allows for a “hello” message, too
- able to tell me which bags are being worn and which are just sitting on a table so they can relate to each other differently
- won’t make inferences about bags clashing or looking bad on a person if its not even being worn

B) soft switch/button to play remark
- harder to realize the bags are connected and not simply playing out random remarks on press

C) soft switch/button or toggle switch as on/off (”start bitching” - “okay, fine, let’s see what these idiots are wearing today”)
- purse doesn’t always have to bitch
- don’t have to worry about delay for people to put on bag and start play
- no false reads of soft switch
- can be seen as more of an “accessory” add-on
- helps with connection problem of solution B, but not entirely
- toggle switch should be fashionable
- switch could be inside of bag or on strap
- switch could light up (perhaps light the Bitchy Bags logo)

Relational problem: if bags are all considered part of the same brand, shouldn’t they be bitching at other “plain” bags, and not each other? Should the bags just start talking about how terrible it is to be “normal” and “gang-up” when together instead?

When thinking of having bags personalized vs. generic voice for all: a contained system could also be created with comments that are generic enough to be an “add-on” to any purse/bag.

I’d like to have a fisheye hole in the strap where the earbud cord can retract. link

in class

act as characters, decide the best interaction, times, delays, relationships

Rosie Daniels (and Hatti) : using iPod mini with iPodBreakout board
John Dimatos : Viculum?

use playlists and shuffle tracks

tilt switches to know if they’re moving
IR/RFID to know if they’re around each other
need people to be moving/swarming during show (using modes may help this)

when looking at input, make sure to graph it - use tigoe’s code on site

consider sleep/wake modes…

what battery options do I have?
AA, JST from Sparkfun
