While sifting through the Internets to find information regarding prototyping, UI design, etc. (see here) I realized there are a lot of people, and companies, that comment on their ability to do Flash prototyping or skills to do mock-up designs that can be used for usability testing, but after a long search I couldn’t find anything at all that seemed to be a consortium of the ideas behind it, let alone a way to get started in the craft.
Last week I proposed a project to Amit Pitaru for our Designing for Constraints class that I’m going to start working on; small at first I’m sure, but hopefully a resource that can spawn out of ITP as a foundational base for rapid prototyping and mock-up design work for anyone with a few easy to handle tools. Tutorials, components, drag and drop coding, resource links, starter kits, etc. are on my list of to-dos. I’m starting with the basics of Flash and its ability to create fast and interactive applications, and as it grows I’ll add (with the help of others in a wiki format) some of the combinations with other tools I’ve grown used to for creating quick mock-ups (Processing, Arduino, I-PAC, etc.). I think this will raise ITP’s documentation and production a lot, and hopefully can act as a way for others to do with same.
All of this to say, I’m now the proud domain owner of mock-up.org and flashprototyping.com, .net, .org, and .info
(I haven’t decided the best way to use these, but I have some ideas…)
I’m just glad you can still manage to seem pretty normal when we hang out.
And I’m glad you said “pretty normal”. :)
