If I wanted - I could take you from your man
With my eyes closed
I can have you eating out the palm out of my hand
And all your little girl friends too
(no you can't - you're a playa I don't want you)
Yes I can and I will if I - if I want to
If I - if I want to baby
(yeah, uh - oh)
That I get what I want - when I want
If I wanted to
(if I wanted to - I'd have you doing whatever I want you to)
(you know - right now I'm just not really doing that)
(but if I wanted to - anything)
(I'm saying - you and your girls, I could have them too)
Listen to me!

2005 Coachella Valley Music Festival
Highlights:
Day 1 - Coldplay, Chemical Brothers, Weezer, Wilco, Keane, Rilo Kiley, Doves, Sage Francis, Four Tet, Mercury Rev, and Spoon
Day 2 - NIN, Bright Eyes, Prodigy, The Faint, The Arcade Fire, DJ Krush, Thrice, Tegan and Sara, Aesop Rock, Jem, Stereophonics, and British Sea Power
Hmm... definitely worth going to both days. That's a tough call if I have to pick just one. Rilo Kiley, Doves, Sage Francis and Spoon are great supporting bands - but they will be rivaled by Aesop Rock, DJ Krush and The Arcade Fire. Choose wisely.

TIME Magazine Archive Article -- "I've Gained Strength" -- Sep. 06, 2004:
TIME
Faith is important to you. Have you ever prayed for Saddam?
BUSH
No.
TIME
There is that challenge to pray for your enemies.
BUSH
Absolutely. But you asked me a personal question, Do I pray for him? No, I haven't. I pray for a lot of things. I pray for the safety of our troops, I pray for those whose hearts are broken because of the decisions I made, I pray for strength, I pray for wisdom. Maybe I will [pray for Saddam], now that you've asked the question.
TIME
What do you hear from Saddam? Is he saying anything?
BUSH
No. I think a lot of them over there aren't talking because there's no incentive to talk.
TIME
At the Democratic Convention, Bill Clinton said, 'Strength and wisdom are not opposing values.'
BUSH
I didn't hear his speech.
TIME
He said, 'Strength and wisdom are not opposing values.'
BUSH
Strength and wisdom are not opposing. I agree.
TIME
He meant it as an attack on you.

Song: The First Day Of My Life
Song: The First Day Of My Life
This is the first day of my life
I swear I was born right in the door way
I went out in the rain
Suddenly everything changed they're spreading
blankets on the beach
Yours is the first face that I saw
I think I was blind before I met you
I don't know where I am
I don't know where I've been
But I know where I want to go
So I thought I'd let you know
These things take forever, I especially am slow
But I realized how I need you
And I wondered if I could come home
I remember the time you drove all night
Just to meet me in the morning
Yeah I thought it was strange
You said everything changed
You felt as if you just woke up
And you said, 'This is the first day of my life.'
I'm glad I didn't die before I met you
Now I don't care, I could go anywhere with you
And I'd probably be happy
So if you want to be with me
With these things there's no telling
we'll just have to wait and see
But I'd rather be working for a pay check
Than waiting to win the lottery
Besides, maybe this time it's different
I mean, I really think you like me

Yesterday was a delightfully bright and sunny Sunday. After church Matt, Tiana, Eric, Roger, Josh, Kaz, Dave Albert, Alison, Heidi and I all went to Momma's Bakery (Lebanese food) and then a group of us went up to Presidio Park to hang out and talk and enjoy the sun. We just lounged all afternoon then Matt and I came back here to watch the Patriots whip up on the Steelers. Post-game we went to the Wrights' for Simpsons, Apples to Apples, and me teaching Micaiah how to play Texas Hold 'Em. That was definitely the highlight of last night. I was sitting on the couch watching TV and Micaiah walks right to me and says "David, can we play Texum Holdum?" I played with him and Tausha last week but he wouldn't say the name, this week he remembered and asked to play. Did I mention Micaiah is 2 years old? It was great.

Monday - MLK Day - had a picnic with Stef, Tiana, Andrew, Brian, Leigh and Aaron at Mission Beach. Went to the plant nursery with Brian and Leigh to buy plants and seeds. Worked in the garden at Leigh/Erin/Rachel's house for a couple hours planting sunflowers, dahlias, carrots, etc. Had a rocklette dinner on the back porch with Brian, Leigh, Erin and Brian. Attempted to go see a movie at Fashion Valley but it was sold out.
Tuesday - Bread of Life downtown. Took a while since we lost some of the group. I went off by myself most of the time. Offered drugs again, so if anyone needs some, I got the hook-ups. Watched Scrubs with Matt - new episode.
Wednesday - B-house had a roommate meeting so Scott, Eric and I played Super Monkey Ball and had a knitting circle. Good times for sure.
Thursday - Fillipi's Pizza Grotto for dinner with Chelsea and Renee. The Album Leaf and Rogue Wave concert at The Casbah until about 1am.
Friday - Good times at the B-house. Key points: "I've needed this like I've needed...", printing Bill Gates' picture, bananas with peanut butter and chocolate, "What I'm saying right now, I've been saying for the last three months! I'm repeating this!"
Saturday - TBA, but expecting to go to an art gallery opening with Scott, Natalia, and Elizabeth (friends from Jenn's work) and then a house party at some guy's place I've never heard of.
-----
In the work related arena, last week I also finished a project for a guy in PB, sent proposals to On Broadway Event Center for a very large project including a video presentation, marketing package and interactive CD-ROM with online capabilities and spent time meeting with Scott a few occassions to work on a presentation to be mailed to Southwest Airlines (initially, more to follow) next week and also with his lawyer, Ken, to file paperwork to create CityWise LLC as a legal entity.

I forgot to log this one - I had my second dream that I'm best friends with Snoop Dogg and we were riding mini bicycles through the halls of a stadium.
I had to live with Jeff Kane in an old grocery store near SDSU and we lived on the shelves that were in a walk-in refrigerator. and we had to watch the modesto kids and one liked to cuddle but had a bad back and the other had diabetes so we hoped 5 cop cars didn't show up at night. I walked on the road outside and there was a girl driving her hatchback Altima backwards with a dead dog on the dashboard and then another man skateboarding the opposite way and had a mean dog and shot him and almost hit me. it rained so I had to find a new place to go, so I went to another grocery store and spoke in broken Spanish to a woman that said I could stay with the homeless that were in the hallway - there were 100 adults and 200 kids that were staying in the back rooms of this Vons. I walked through and all the way to the back where Shannon Reinhardt and Leigh were watching the kids and trying to make them stay quiet while the rest of everyone slept. Shan was smoking crack and it was weird to me and started making me high so I made us leave.

After preparing myself a couple sandwiches for lunch; Brian, Aaron, Leigh and I met up with Stef, Tiana, and Andrew (the guy that Tiana will be supporting on the weekends) in Mission Beach for a picnic lunch of chips, dip, Kool-aid, and the like. After a game of bocce ball (Aaron and I kicked the crap out of Tiana and Brian) we dropped Aaron off for work and then Leigh, Brian and I went to the nursery on Home Ave. to look for plants for their garden. The afternoon consisted of tilling the soil, planting onions, cilantro, brussels, carrots, etc. before having a rocclete dinner of marinated chicken breast, peppers, pineapple, banana, tomatos, etc. for dinner outside. We attempted to make it to see In Good Company at Fashion Valley but it was sold out. I'm now back at home for the time being, but may head out to OB for a bit to watch some Sex in the City (ehh...) and hot tub with Chelsea, Jenn, and Renee. We shall see. Even if I were to turn in right now, I'd have to say it was a nice relaxing, fulfiling day. Oh, and did I mention it was 72 degrees outside? How's that January weather for you?

I don't really keep up with Homestarrunner anymore, but decided to take a look at the latest Strong Bad E-mail just a minute ago. This one really is hilarious and random - Lappy 486

Steve Williams just informed me of this site and a petition he was asked to sign. After hearing about it and being completely appauled, I had to check it out. But now I know that Bonsai Kitten truly is a fine art form and should be viewed with respect and admiration.
Be sure to check out the guestbook.

I just sent 6 of my pieces to Beatriz Milhazes for her insight/criticism. I'm not actually that nervous right now - I think it's because I've never met her. It's different when you've met someone face to face - right now it just seems like I've posted it on my website again or something. Not exactly real to me. But when I get her thoughts back - depending on what response and how detailed - I'm sure it will set in. Oh well, here's to hoping.
Side note - I have decided not to show any of my work from now on to my friends before I print them and put them on the wall. Since I live for praise and admiration I think I cater too much to what people want, instead of trying to focus on my artistic goals and endeavors. Sorry, you'll just have to come to the openings.

I was part of a secret ops group that was supposed to break in to a very large mansion in the middle of a family camp in Colofrado that had taken some of my friends captive and was making them deliver the mail, clean the house, and go with him on business trips wearing bikinis. The business man/owner was a pharmaceutical rep and he thought that's what the 3rd world countries he was selling supplies to wanted. So I broke in to the house with the large group (probably a dozen of us) of people... oh, did I mention the secret ops group consists primarily of midgets? Ya, it does. We broke in and talked to one of my friends that was just walking around in a bikini and we asked the best time to go in, she said they have wine every night at 10pm but he never drinks - we decided to spike his drink (and apparently that's what we had to do the FIRST time we broke in and saved them...). We were able to get inside and the owner came in with a silver pitcher and I thought he was going to spill it on me so I knocked it out of his hands and it was filled with cognac. He just got a towel and cleaned it. Then we all confronted him about why he was doing this and he said so people could appreciate the women. I got in to an argument with him asking if it was for interest or appreciation, what his definition of appreciation is, etc. His wife was in the room and said she used to switch back and forth between wearing brooches that had USA on them and some that said Puerto Rico when she taught there. My Mom was suddenly sitting on a step in front of the fireplace and said she has to switch her brooches too because some have the electron as positive and some as negative on the wrong sides in her diagrams because they're different in US and Canada. There was no resolution, but the next scene was the man lying on his bed, folding his bolo ties and talking to his wife about how I remembered everything and how it reminded him of his old computer.

Last week I sent an e-mail to Beatriz Milhazes - a painter in Brazil that I found here a few months ago. Her work really inspired me to go back to how I was using color and flat surfaces. Even though her work is not graphic design formatted, it's still influenced by it, so I inquired if she would be so kind as to look at some of my art pieces before I print them for my galleries coming up. I just received a response and she said I could send her some images and she would give me her feelings on them. I'm jazzed. Beatriz was even featured at the Biennale recently - I believe the same year I was there, and has also done an architectural work for MOMA. OK that is all.
From a rather large woman walking down the stairs in my apartment complex:
This happens as I'm walking down to the computer store about a block away that I believe is being run by a Mexican drag queen.
Huh-uh... Lordy Sweet Jesus!!! Who would want some after that?!? That is dis-gus-ting! You just had your penis in my la-la.

We just received our neighbor's mail in our mailbox. Want to know his name? Nic Mou. Yes, that's right - our next door neighbor's name is Nic Mou. NCMO. Non Committal Make Out. Could this day get any better?

I just got my hypoallergenic featherbed mattress pad in the mail from my mom (got it for x-mas, had it mailed). I've been anxiously awaiting this delivery since I got back last week. I'm very happy - it's all about the little victories. Now it will be easier to sleep without you.

After I picked up my Little Caesar's pizza I thought - "why should I walk the 3/4 mile or so back to my apartment in order to eat what would then be cold pizza, while watching a movie or something on my computer, when there are other places to see and observe around this neighborhood?" So I didn't. I walked over to the community indoor soccer fields and watched a game, then I walked up to the tennis courts past there and found that they are not only very nice courts - but they are lit until about 10pm. I'll definitely have to use them. Then I walked down Kansas street and found the Har Mar Superstar van - I didn't know Kaz moved around here, but unless he's running drugs, it looks like he has. I then walked by Rudford's Diner on the corner of El Cajon and Kansas and looked inside - old Denny's style and it's open 24 hrs! Something else I'll have to check out. On the way back I found a place called Dance Unlimited which had a black guy teaching hip-hop dance to a bunch of white girls (moms and daughters) right around the corner from my apartment. Of course this trip also entailed the usual women asking if I wear cologne, or if I have a girlfriend that does, seeing a man crushing cans that I stayed the night with 2 nights ago at the cold weather shelter, a group of gangsta high schoolers... that were trading books of coupons (?!?) and plenty of other riff-raff. Anyways, it was a nice little jaunt around the community and worth noting. Another instance to remind me most of the time I have do stuff for myself and not wait for others to make things happen. In the meantime I also got a call from Scott (I left him a message asking to play tennis on those courts Saturday morning) and it looks like we're going to the Old Sod Irish Pub down the street from me in about an hour for karaoke with Jenn and her co-workers. Should be a hootanany.

For those of you that aren't aware - the CCDC has shut down the Salvation Army's food distribution, which puts Bread of Life out on the streets. So tonight we hit the streets again to pass out food to those less fortunate than ourselves in this crappy rainy cold weather. Cold is 47 degrees currently. Also my good friend Laurie Kietzman is in town! Last night her, Aaron, Brian Becker, Rachel, Jason, Leigh and I went to Red Sea Restaurant for some good Ethiopian eats. Complete with injera silverware. After that we went over to Leigh/Rachel/Erin's place and played Super Mario Bros on NES for a few hours. We had a couple visits from their house mouse which scared Laurie so bad she kicked a table and broke a glass - good times. Super Mario Bros made all of us nostalgic and Aaron and I have decided we need to have a co-ed sleepover and play NES all night long. Anyways, back to Bread of Life - there were a couple people that got arrested tonight right around the corner in the Pep Boys parking lot so John stood around and talked to one of the local SDPD officers (that knows Norma from the coalition and Bread of Life on 13th and Broadway) about the food distribution, how the officer felt we are simply continuing the circle, where we're going next, etc. Definitely gave me some stuff to think about even though I didn't hear the full conversation. I'm here at home for a little while and here in 10 minutes I'm heading back up to church to spend the night at the inclement weather shelter downstairs. Laurie, Johnnie Wright, Aaron and I are working the night shift. What will I be doing tomorrow? Really you want to know? Well tomorrow I will get back here around 7am, probably take a nap, then I'll work more on a Flash project I'm doing for a guy in PB, look at some paperwork for starting CityWise (which I made a decision to start alone with the support of Fabrice, Steve, Scott, and Burak) and probably play some Xbox as well.
Also a heads up to those interested - I've been asked to show my artwork at a coffee shop right around the corner from our apartment (on 30th and Adams) that is expanding and will be having a grand opening the beginning of February. I'm working on some new pieces now that I hope to have printed soon, and it's going to be all my work on the walls. Should be a cool new place from what the owner has told me. So you're invited. Also later in the spring I believe I'm going to be having a gallery at INR NRG (the piercing place I got my lip ring at a month or so ago) - but that's not as finalized as the coffee shop. I'll put some of my work up here as it becomes ready to get some feedback before printing. I'd appreciate any and all criticism. As a matter of fact... here's one... let me know what you think.

New pictures just uploaded from Christmas at our house. Aunt Jan, Uncle Ron, Michaela (who is a sophomore in HS and 5'11''), and Aaron (freshman in college and 6'6'') drove down from Liberty, KS (Kansas City area), Granddad and Darlene, Uncle Randy and Aunt Cindy, Sean, Mike, Ryan and Shelley with Gabe and Luke and my family were all here (Grammy was around for the holiday as well - although she is a Loeber, Mom's mom, not an Overholt). This was our Overholt Christmas celebration on Christmas Day. We exchanged gifts, played Xbox, ping pong, ate lots of food, played Rook, and watched football - a pretty typical midwestern middle class caucassian not-white-Christmas. It was crazy to see how big Luke is, and I had never even seen Gabe before. We also attended a Christmas Eve service at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene (BFC, my old church where my mom and dad still go) for a candle lighting. It was nice, nothing out of the ordinary.... well... except when a 16 year old dressed like Mary and did an interprative dance to Breath of Heaven... that was odd... other than that it was nice. And for all of you that are curious - my family didn't really care about my lip ring and all of my friend's parents just starred and me and walked off, not knowing what to say.
It's always interesting for me to see how I react around my family - because I'm always the quiet one. Definitely makes me think about growing up and how I got to where I am - especially how my friends here in San Diego have no idea what I'm like back in OKC. We'll see though, my immediate family is planning on coming to San Diego in March.

New pictures of Brad Wilson and Heather Stalling's wedding that was on December 18th. Definitely good to be in town early to hang out with Jer, Brad, BJ, Jake, Jarod, and the rest of the guys. The wedding was at OKC First Church of the Nazarene in Oklahoma City where Heather attends (and I also attend when I'm in OKC). Pastor Steve Green welcomed everyone to the service and Heather's dad performed the ceremony. Of course I had to mess with the guys, so I called all of them during the ceremony on their cell phones and watched them fidget and try to ignore the vibration. Luckily for them nobody had their ringers turned on. It was definitely interesting ushering some people that arrived - such as Mrs. Bley, Croslin, and a few other teachers and people from growing up in OKC. Got to see a good number of friends though. Can't say much about the bachelor party except there was a ski mask, headlamp, ear plugs, betta fish, and Jeremy's pirhanas involved. We also stuck around and played a few rounds of poker (TX hold 'em). I believe that is all for the wedding. Note that we could not shoe polish the 1937 Rolls Royce so I had Matt draw Orphus (our mascot created by Brett a very long time ago) on the doors of the church.
